Position Overview

The Events Manager is responsible for developing and executing an annual events strategy that will identify and position Arnold Ventures as a thought leader with organizations and networks who advance our mission. These in-person and virtual events will be an opportunity to raise the profile of Arnold Ventures’ experts and policy goals. With a strong understanding of event management, the Manager will execute against their developed events strategy and coordinate with other teams, outside support and AV leadership along the way. Reporting to the Director of Public Relations, the Manager will develop and execute plans that elevate Arnold Ventures’ profile and brand as a convener, bringing together a diverse range of opinions and experts to tackle various public policy issues. This position will be based in our Washington, D.C. office.

Core Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the Communications team to develop an annual strategic plan for events that supports AV’s brand, relationship, and policy and advocacy goals and execute against that plan with the management of annual events calendar. 
  • Collaborate with Programmatic teams to develop event content, logistics and agendas, and ensure a strong, consistent brand presence. 
  • Design, plan, and execute AV branded, in-person events and event partnerships, including an annual multi-day conference for grantees. Manage, monitor, and support the execution of virtual events. 
  • Prepare run-of-show documents. Generate day-of staffing plans for events and program staff. Coordinate with event speakers and support the management of event invitations. 
  • Propose and implement new ideas to improve the event planning and execution process. After events, support the team with analyzing event metrics, and adapt future event strategies by conducting postmortem assessments, and review. 
  • Research venues and vendors, and lead on contract facilitation with AV’s grants and legal team. This may include traveling to conduct site visits. 
  • Support the team with the administration management, including budgets, contracts, vendors, invoices and expenses. Coordinate catering, meeting materials, and accessibility accommodations. 
  • Work with AV’s creative team to oversee event venue design and configuration, including event signage and to arrange photography, videography or other necessary event elements. Collaborate with the digital team to ensure social media content is coordinated for events. 
  • Coordinate with AV’s legal team to ensure all event participants are compliant with all laws and regulations. 
  • Identify professional development opportunities regarding event management best practices, trends, and new ideas by attending continuing education conferences, and coordinating with other industry professionals. 

Required Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in event management, preferably within a nonprofit, government entity, think tank or advocacy organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Hospitality, or related field.
  • Successful track record of planning, managing and executing events.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Experience managing budgets and financial aspects of events.
  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills. 
  • Flexibility to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.

The salary range for this position will be $100,000-$130,000.
