(AV Co-Founder and Co-Chair John Arnold at the Texas Tribune Festival in Austin last week)
Last week, Austin was home to the annual Texas Tribune Festival — a convening of politicians, journalists, and thought leaders — for three days filled with compelling and in-depth conversations.
On the main stage, John Arnold, AV's co-founder and co-chair, sat down for a one-on-one conversation with Evan Smith, co-founder of and senior advisor to the Texas Tribune. The two discussed the role of philanthropy in public policy, AV’s infrastructure work, and the near-universal desire among Americans to be charitable.

- Lawmakers in Nevada are considering the possibility of “Second Look” legislation, which would allow courts or review boards to reconsider long sentences for incarcerated people who have been rehabilitated.
- According to Sheriff Bob Gualtieri, who was interviewed in the St. Pete Catalyst, severe overcrowding in the Pinellas County Jail in Florida is partly attributable to a new state law that makes it harder to release low-risk defendants before trial.
