Bloomberg TV’s Joe Mathieu recently took a dive into AV’s “Achieving Fiscally Responsible Tax Reform” report with our Executive Vice President of Public Finance George Callas on “Balance of Power.”
“Our view is that Congress can do both and should do both,” said Callas, “Make permanent and extend pro-growth tax policy, but also do it without increasing our already unsustainable debt burden.”
The pair went through highlights of AV's 10 proposed spending cuts and 10 tax loophole closers in the report, with Mathieu commenting on their need and relevance. “It’s pretty remarkable,” said Mathieu, waving the report in his hand. “You won’t agree with it all, but at least somebody’s taking a crack at this.”

Bringing States Together
on Public Safety

The Consortium of Public Safety Executives at a recent meeting in Monterey, CA.
When it comes to public safety, communities and states are better off if they work together and learn from each other’s experiences. This is the rationale behind the Consortium of Public Safety Executives, a project run by the National Governors Association (NGA). Started in 2023, the Consortium is a nonpartisan effort that convenes executive staff from gubernatorial offices across the country to discuss specific challenges and provide guidance on best practices as it relates to keeping communities and residents safe. NGA also provides technical assistance to Consortium members, helping them navigate criminal justice research, practice, and promising policies.
