The increase to insurers in the 2026 Medicare Advantage rates
Earlier this week the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released finalized payment updates for Medicare Advantage and Part D. The 2026 rates include a more than $25 billion increase to health insurers, on top of the tens of billions they are already overpaid annually. In a statement, Arnold Ventures Executive Vice President of Health Care Mark E. Miller noted, “We are disappointed that the administration failed to take more direct action to reduce excess payments from upcoding. That said, we commend them for completing the risk adjustment phase-in that began in 2024.”
