Grant Recipient: Harvard University

Principal Investigator(s): Marcella Alsan, Crystal Yang

Term: 2024

Funding: $50,000

Summary: This study provides an independent causal analysis of the impact of accreditation of health services in jails on the health and well-being of incarcerated individuals. Over 40 jails in the United States were randomly subsidized to receive accreditation via the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC).

Data were collected through a rigorous audit of facility procedures, formularies, booking records, medical records of incarcerated individuals, and interviews with incarcerated individuals and facility leadership. Results are anticipated in Spring 2024.
